Your daily experiences as a property manager may seem unpredictable. But don’t be fooled by appearances. You have more impact on your daily destinies than you may have believed.

The mindset that you bring to your work and your personal life is both a reflector and a generator of your resolutions and results. Regardless of your unanticipated outcomes, you’re “the boss”. You can call yourself “The Captain of Your Own Destiny” or the “Producer of Your Own Movie”. Any way you express it, we are all a product of the kind of energy we exude and where we focus our attention.

“Everything is energy and that’s all there is to it,” states Time Magazine’s “Man of the 20th Century,” Albert Einstein. “Match the frequency of the reality you want and you cannot help but get that reality. It can be no other way. This is not philosophy. This is physics.”

Do your professional and personal resolutions reflect “…the reality you want…”? If not, ask yourself specific questions that empower you to zero in on what you want with laser-like precision. Sit down with a notepad and ask the following essential questions:

  • What are the priorities of my work as a property manager?
  • Do I begin my day with my top priorities?
  • What is your reputation among your clients, residents and employees?
  • Are you a person of your word?
  • Do you exude positive energy and enthusiasm? Ask the people closest to you who you trust to find out.
  • Can you imagine (conceptualize) what your life will be like one year from today?
  • Do you practice using your imagination to sculpt and design outcomes for your professional and personal lives?

Do you set a positive, confident and compassionate example for your employees, partners, clients and residents? If not, return to Einstein’s quote above and ask yourself why you’re not open to “physics”.

Another powerful law of physics changes the way we reconfigure our mindset. This law can be summed up this way; what we place our attention on expands and grows, so be careful where you focus it. Place your attention and focus on what you want, NOT on what you don’t want. Resolve to locate the successes, excellent examples, the progress and outcomes that you really desire and want more of.

Also choose to imagine better outcomes for areas of your professional and personal lives that clearly don’t reflect your heart’s desires. Keep your eyes on your “targets” and expect better results.
Another more familiar axiom reminds us, “If you keep doing the same things over and over again and expect different results…” well, you probably can finish the sentence. Hint: It’s about our sanity.

“The possible’s slow fuse is lit by the imagination,” Emily Dickinson reminds all of us. Let your mindset be empowered with imaginative questions, and you’ll get the resolutions you truly want. “It can be no other way”!
